Tucked in a little corner in Lado Sarai just off the old MB road in New Delhi is a small little outlet that will instantly catch your eye if you love fashion with a difference.
Buzzaria – the quaint little place that smells of freshly brewed fashion by emerging brands and designers is a hub for all your fashion needs be it clothing, accessories, jewelry, ecofriendly products, blue and black pottery, handmade soft toys, digital art and paintings, garments, gift articles, footwear, home décor or just sweet nothings for yourself, family and friends.
Spread across 2 floors this is a store that will satisfy your fashion taste buds and tickle your creative bone for that quirky or traditional piece that you always wanted to lay your hands on.
I had gone visiting the store at the launch of ‘Falana Dhimkana’, a new addition at Buzzaria that talks about quirky home décor with recycled and reusable stuff. The brains behind Falana Dhimkana, designer Kanwal Narula who is a CA, talking about her quirky and fresh design ideas said that her designs are anything but usual and straight from the heart. So if you are looking to spruce up your house this festive season then you must visit Buzzaria at least once.
One of the the best aspect that I liked about the store is that everything is made in India and Mamtaa Gupta, founder, Buzzaria talking about her 4th startup said, “Buzzaria is an Indian bazaar that is all about Indian art and craft and is a multi-brand store. At present I have more than 50 brands that have found a home at Buzzaria.”
On being asked what inspired her to choose the name Buzzaria for her venture, Mamtaa said that there is a local market in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan which is referred to as ‘Bajaria’ which motivated her so much that she couldn’t think of calling her baby anything else.
There are various brands that retail at Buzzaria like Neev, which is a Jharkhand based NGO that offers handmade soaps, foot massage creams etc. and Neev also retails at Khadi India. Other brands present here are Hands On – it promotes dying art and craft, Indricka – a Mumbai based brand of organic and sustainable clothing, Zeme- from Bangalore is one of the few certified brands that is again about organic sustainable clothing. There is also Surmaa from Delhi, Nayi Dagai from Delhi and Bihar, Blue Pear that is the footwear brand. You can also find beautiful jewelry by designer Akash K Agrawal whose brand is Subhasini Ornamental; he has also participated in India Runway week from 2014 to 2016.
Chumbak, the fashion brand that is so well received by the fashion conscious saw its beginnings at Buzzaria in 2011.
Definitely, it’s a wonderful platform for all such retailers that are there in the country but need to be seen and heard.
There is a conscious effort of women empowerment and upliftment at Buzzaria, local talent is employed for various requirements like stitching, embroidering and helping with regular work at Buzzaria. These women in turn make sure that their children go to school and get good education.
Mamtaa is the driving force behind Buzzaria and its activities. She is a textile designer with an eye for detail and an understanding of fashion that has its roots in India yet is international in taste. Keeping this in view she participated in Spring Summer ’16 India Runway Week with her ‘Crochet Tales’ collection which she retails under the brand name MimaThyma. This collection is all about Indian hand block print fused with crochet in its new avatar which is classy and comfy that is perfect for the woman of today who is a global citizen but is proud of her roots.
She loves all the brands that retail at Buzzaria and treats them as her own and hence you can see there is always a buzz here with lots of events and happenings at the store so that more and more people who love Indian fashion can connect and discover the gem of Indian art and craft curated so painstakingly.
Buzzaria is one stop shop for people who create fashion and for those who love to appreciate that.
