Ras Al Khaimah: Family Fun in UAE

As the winter session in the schools start the next thought which comes to my mind is zeroing in on a destination for a family break in the winter vacations. This time it could be Ras Al Khaimah for the right reasons

Ras Al Khaimah, the UAE’s northernmost emirate offers a variety of experiences and it is not Dubai folks. There is so much more to the Emirates than Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah is located less than an hour from Dubai and is definitely one of the inroads into the heart of Arabia with stunning beaches to explore, 7,000 years of culture to delve into and a wonderful array of family-friendly adventures to experience Ras Al Khaimah seems to be the perfect option this winter vacation for my family.

Here are my top 6 reasons to visit this wonderful Emirate with family:

1.Sun and Sand

So while Delhi is reeling under the pressure of pollution, air borne ailments, fog and almost no sunshine in the winter months I think it is a good idea to pack our bags and enjoy the winter sun, crystal clear waters and around 64 kilometres of sandy shore.  Tucked between the Arabian Gulf and Al Hajar mountains, Ras Al Khaimah offers all this and more, a special mention to the man made Al Marjan Island and the nearby Al Hamra village that are hubs for beautiful beaches, luxury resorts and kid’s clubs.

 2. Be a Water Baby

Water sports are a wonderful way to have fun and rejuvenate

Both my daughters love water and I am getting there slowly 😉 When I got to know about wonderful ways to cool off in Ras Al Khaimah, I really didn’t have to think further. You can indulge in fishing, kayaking with sea turtles and sting rays, snorkelling, scuba diving, parasailing and jet skiing. Spending a day at the Ice land water Park is a must with kids when you are in Ras Al Khaimah, where water slides and rides offer endless fun for kids and adults alike.

3. Desert Adventures

For families inclined towards adventure activities surfing on sand dunes at Ras Al Khaimah’s Bassata Desert Village is a must do. Families can also enjoy traditional barbecue and the Arabic entertainment at Bedouin Oasis Camp is a a great way to enjoy the Arabic hospitality.

You will not miss the mountains in this desert.  You can enjoy a family picnic or hike at the Al Hajar Mountains highlighted by bold canyons and breathtaking views. For that adrenalin rush you can trek up to the summit of UAE’s highest peak – Jebel Jais which stands 1,934 meters tall and stays 10 degrees cooler than sea level.
